Taken within 72 hours of sex to reduce the risk of bacterial STDs. It has no effect on HIV and does not replace barrier protection.
DoxyPEP is a newer approach to bacterial STD prevention that has been adopted in the United States and elsewhere as condomless sex has become more common. A dose of doxycycline taken within 72 hours of exposure lowers the chance of gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis taking hold. It is generally offered to people who have had an STD before, who have multiple partners, who have had sex without a condom, or who work in higher-risk environments.
You can be seen here without speaking Japanese. Consultations are handled with a translation app and written notes rather than by an English-speaking doctor, which works well for treatments where the decision is straightforward — repeat prescriptions, testing, hair removal — and is slower where you have a complicated history to explain. Treatment information, pricing and access details on these pages are in English. The booking system and the pre-visit questionnaire are in Japanese, so message us on LINE beforehand if you would like help completing them.
Gonorrhoea and chlamydia are ¥8,000 each, or ¥12,800 for both together, which is what most people take. Candida is ¥8,900 at a first visit. The consultation itself is free when you are tested or treated — it is ¥3,000 only if you are neither.
Doxycycline taken within 72 hours after sex to reduce the chance of picking up gonorrhoea, chlamydia or syphilis. It is a single dose at ¥1,500, or ¥8,900 for ten doses if you would rather keep it on hand. It is prevention after exposure, not a substitute for condoms, and it does nothing against HIV.
Yes, in many cases medication is dispensed at the clinic on the day. Online consultation is also available with medication posted anywhere in Japan.
Yes. Couples are welcome to attend together, and consultations happen in private rooms. A female nurse is on staff.
Yes — that is the main argument for it. Chlamydia in particular is often silent, and untreated infection is a cause of infertility and of transmission to a partner. If a partner has tested positive, get tested regardless of how you feel.
