- Ingredient/class
- Tadalafil
- Eligible patients/indications
- Japanese-approved Cialis for ED comes in 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg strengths and is indicated for erectile dysfunction. Daily low-dose directions for benign prostatic hyperplasia do not justify self-directed daily ED dosing.
- Assessing effects
- Rather than adding doses within a short time, take it at the prescribed time and assess response and side effects. Its prolonged action means subsequent medicine use and alcohol plans also need discussion.
- Clinic care
- Service information supported by public sources is identified in the article. Final prescribing decisions are made during consultation.
What the medicine is
It inhibits PDE5 and supports penile blood flow during sexual stimulation. Cialis is an ED brand name. Other tadalafil products have indications for benign prostatic hyperplasia or pulmonary hypertension; the same ingredient does not mean the prescribing purposes are identical.

Japanese-approved Cialis for ED comes in 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg strengths and is indicated for erectile dysfunction. Daily low-dose directions for benign prostatic hyperplasia do not justify self-directed daily ED dosing.

Treatment limitations and when diagnosis is needed
It does not directly improve libido or time to ejaculation. The description up to 36 hours does not mean an erection lasts 36 hours or everyone responds for the same duration.
Formulations and basic directions
The approved Japanese ED directions usually give 10 mg approximately 1 hour before intercourse, with a doctor considering 20 mg according to effect and tolerability. Take no more than once daily, at least 24 hours apart. Dose and interval vary with kidney or liver function; do not decide your dose yourself from these general instructions.

Timing of response and decisions about continuation
Rather than adding doses within a short time, take it at the prescribed time and assess response and side effects. Its prolonged action means subsequent medicine use and alcohol plans also need discussion.
Side effects and symptoms to watch for
Reported reactions include headache, flushing, indigestion, back pain and muscle pain. Watch for low blood pressure, persistent erection and sudden vision or hearing changes.

When to stop and seek medical attention
An erection lasting 4 hours or more requires immediate assessment. For chest pain, fainting or severe breathing difficulty, seek emergency care and provide the medicine name and dosing time. Do not add nitrates yourself.
Restrictions and interactions
Nitrates/NO donors and riociguat are contraindicated combinations. Use may be prohibited with heart disease making sexual activity inadvisable, recent myocardial infarction or stroke, or serious liver impairment. Disclose antihypertensives, alpha blockers, medicines affecting CYP3A4 and other ED medicines.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and patient precautions
This medicine is used for ED in adult men. Do not transfer it to anyone else.
Additional care
Food effects are considered smaller than with sildenafil, but heavy alcohol consumption affects erectile function and blood pressure. Do not add another ED medicine because the effect is insufficient.
Storage and quality checks
The Japanese Cialis prescribing information specifies room-temperature storage. Check the actual clinic product’s storage label; do not use wet or expired tablets.
Differences from other medicines and treatments
Differences from sildenafil include duration, food effects and circumstances of use. Even for searches about daily tadalafil 5 mg, Japanese benign-prostatic-hyperplasia directions and ED directions are separate. Do not mix other indications into the ED explanation.
Discussing consultation and prescribing with SWIFT
SWIFT’s official ED page displays tadalafil 22 mg from JPY 980 per tablet. Japanese-approved Cialis, however, comes in 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg strengths. The 22 mg product cannot be presented as a Japanese-approved Cialis strength. Confirm the actual product name, approval status and sourcing with the clinic before treatment.
Our clinic’s ED care and product information for further information. Confirm approval status, sourcing and conditions during consultation; do not assume the same conditions as Japanese-approved products.
