The safety and effectiveness of off-label Rybelsus use for cosmetic slimming, dieting or similar purposes have not been established. In addition to adverse effects that can occur with approved use, unexpected health harm may occur. Discuss the off-label nature of treatment, its risks and alternatives with a doctor.

Japan’s Relief System for Sufferers from Adverse Drug Reactions covers health harm associated with appropriate use for an appropriate purpose. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare warns that, for off-label cosmetic slimming or dieting, the likelihood of being ineligible for relief benefits is very high, even if serious harm occurs.

Formulations and basic directions

The approved directions start at 3 mg once daily, advancing to 7 mg after at least 4 weeks. If 7 mg remains insufficient after at least 4 weeks, a doctor considers 14 mg. Take one tablet fasting before the first food or drink of the day with no more than approximately 120 mL water. Avoid food, drink and other oral medicines for at least 30 minutes afterward. Do not split, crush or chew. Skip a missed day and take the next day’s dose. This explains Japanese-approved directions, not a replacement for individual prescribing instructions.
